New construction & existing steel
On new builds and additions, the steel goes in to the engineer's layout. That means beams and columns set to the framing plan, base plates and embeds located for the anchor bolts, moment and shear connections welded to the detail, and stair stringers and mezzanine steel fabricated to fit the openings. Working from your drawings and alongside the GC and inspector, the welded structural connections come together to match the spec so the frame passes review and carries what it's designed to.
Existing steel doesn't stay new. Settling can leave a member out of line, corrosion eats away at a beam or column, and overload damage bends or cracks what used to be sound. Remodels open up their own needs — cut a wall for a bigger opening and it usually wants a new header or beam. Load paths, connections & inspection
