Hand rail welding across the Treasure Valley

Safety you lean on.
Curb appeal you see.

A hand rail does two jobs at once. It's the thing you grab when the stairs are icy or a porch step is a little high, and it's one of the first pieces of metal anyone sees walking up to your house. When it's loose, rusted, or leaning, both jobs stop getting done. A good gate is the same story — it has to latch and swing every day and it sets the tone at your driveway or entry.

Idaho Welding Service builds and repairs hand rails, guardrail, and gates across the Treasure Valley for homeowners, property managers, ranchers, and contractors. New railing for stairs, porches, and decks, custom driveway and ranch gates, and repairs to steel that's already bolted or set in place.

Installed steel can't come to a shop

That's the whole reason mobile is the natural fit for rail and gate work. A stair rail anchored in concrete or a gate hung on set posts isn't going anywhere. We bring the welder, the steel, and the power to the work. Call or text photos with your city and you'll get a straight answer on the fix and the cost before anyone rolls a truck.

Two kinds of calls

Fix what's failing. Build what's new.

Repair work

Most rail and gate calls start because something quit doing its job. The bases on a stair rail rusted through where they meet the concrete, a porch railing pulls loose because the anchors let go, or a driveway gate drags and won't latch because it has sagged on its hinges. We cut out the rot, weld in sound steel, re-anchor what came loose, and re-hang or re-square gates so they swing and latch again. Because the rail is already installed, we do it on-site — no tearing it out and hauling it off.

New custom builds

When there's nothing there yet, or the old one is past saving, we build new. Custom driveway gates sized to your opening and posts, stair rail and porch railing shaped to fit steps and stonework that isn't square, and guardrail where a deck or landing needs it. You tell us the span, the look, and how heavy-duty it needs to be, and we build steel to match — plain and tough, or styled to match a fence, entry, or the existing ironwork on an older home.

Styles, materials & finish

From clean and modern to classic ironwork.

Design that fits the property

Most Treasure Valley projects lean modern — square pickets, clean top rails, simple patterns that match newer homes. But older houses deserve rails with their own character, and existing ornamental ironwork can be matched: scrolls, collars, and picket patterns replicated while the spacing and anchoring quietly come up to today's standards. Steel is the workhorse for strength and detail; aluminum earns its place on exterior stairs and balconies where weight and corrosion matter, and stainless where the look calls for it.

Built to code, finished to last

Guard heights, picket spacing, and graspable handrail profiles aren't decoration — they're what makes a rail pass inspection and hold when someone actually falls against it. We verify the requirements that apply to your project, weld joints fully and grind them clean, and set posts with anchors that fit the structure. Finish gets talked through per project — from primed and paint-ready to powder coating — based on where the rail lives and how much sun, snow, and sprinkler water it's going to take.

Commercial or structural rail?

Permits, specs, and code work — we build to the plan.

Most home handrail and gate work is a straightforward repair or custom build. But commercial railing and some structural or guardrail projects are different — they may need to meet code or engineered specifications through your local building department, with heights, connections, and load requirements set by the plans. On those jobs we build to the spec you or your contractor provide, and we're used to working alongside GCs, framers, and inspectors on active sites.

Building to code

Guardrail heights, engineered connections, and inspections for commercial or structural rail run through your local building department. Where a permit or stamped detail is required, we weld to it.

Working with your GC

On permitted jobs we build railing to the plans — the guardrail spec, the connection detail, and the inspector's requirements. Have your contractor or engineer send the detail and we'll take it from there.

Repairs, no runaround

For residential railing and gate repairs there's usually no permit involved — just a fast fix. If it's loose, rusted, or sagging, call and we'll get it holding again.

Common questions

Hand rail & gate FAQ.

Can you repair a handrail or gate that's already installed?

Yes. Installed steel can't come to a shop, so this is exactly what mobile welding is for. We fix rusted-out anchors and bases, re-secure loose rail, repair cracked joints, and straighten or re-hang sagging gates right where they stand — at your home, ranch, or job site across the Treasure Valley.

Do you build custom gates?

Yes. We build custom driveway gates, garden and yard gates, and ranch or corral gates in steel, sized to your opening and posts. Whether you want something plain and heavy-duty or a specific look to match a fence or entry, tell us the span and we'll build it to fit.

Can you match the ironwork on my older home?

Usually, yes. A lot of railing and gate work on older Treasure Valley homes is wrought iron or early steel that needs a repair or a new section that blends in. We build to match the existing pattern and scale as closely as the material allows so a repair doesn't look bolted on.

Do handrail or gate projects need permits or code compliance?

Some do. Commercial railing and some structural or guardrail work may need to meet code or engineered specifications through your local building department. For residential repairs and most custom gates it usually isn't a factor. We build to the spec you or your contractor provide and are happy to coordinate on code-driven projects.

How much does hand rail or gate welding cost?

It depends on the job — length of rail, the gate size, material, and whether it's a repair or a new build. The fastest way to get a real number is to text photos of the railing or gate and your city to 208-409-0756. You get a straight answer before any work starts.

Do you build commercial railing to a contractor's spec?

Yes. On commercial and permitted jobs we weld to the plans — guardrail heights, engineered connections, and inspector requirements. Have your GC or engineer send the detail and we'll build railing to that spec, on-site or fabricated and installed.

Need a rail or gate?

Calling is fastest. You can also text photos of the railing or gate, along with your city, and we will get back to you with the next step and a straight answer on cost.
